Accurate diagnosis begins with a thorough medical history and an evaluation of the patient’s lifestyle and environment.
The doctors at The Village Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Center provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for allergies, asthma, and immune system disorders. Advanced testing and personalized treatment plans will help patients effectively manage their symptoms.
Exposure to pollen, dust mites, mold, pet dander, and insect allergens can trigger allergies that affect breathing, skin, and overall well-being.
Pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds
• Trees pollinate from February – June
• Grasses pollinate from April – July
• Weeds pollinate from June – October
Dust mites
• Microscopically found in bedding
• Perennial, but cause worsening symptoms from October – March
Mold spores
• Indoor and outdoor
• Symptoms are year-round
Pet allergens – specifically cats and dogs
• Found in the dander, saliva, and urine
Insects
• Bee stings, yellow jackets, wasps, hornets, fire ants and mosquitoes
Occupational
• Depends solely on what you are exposed to
Food allergies can cause hives, asthma, eczema, sinus conditions, digestive issues, and migraines. Our specialists identify food triggers and develop personalized management plans.
We provide food allergy testing, dietary guidance, and emergency action plans to ensure safety and symptom management.
Common Food Allergies in Children:
• Milk
• Egg
• Wheat
• Fish
• Peanut
• Corn
• Soy
Common Food Allergies in Adults:
• Shellfish
• Tree nuts
• Peanuts
Skin allergies and inflammatory conditions can cause discomfort and irritation.
Urticaria (Hives)
Red, itchy welts that appear suddenly due to allergens or unknown triggers.
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
A chronic skin condition causing dryness, itching, and inflammation.
Contact Dermatitis
Rashes triggered by contact with irritants like soaps, metals, or plants.
Eczema
A broader category of allergic skin inflammation is linked to immune system responses.
Contact Exposure Allergies
Reactions occur when skin touches allergens, such as:
• Latex/rubber
• Jewelry/metal
• Cosmetics/perfumes
• Chemicals
Drug & Medications Allergies
Adverse reactions to drugs are common and can be life-threatening. Every drug can cause at least one reaction, however, some of the most common include:
• Antibiotics (e.g. Penicillin)
• Analgesics (e.g. Aspirin & NSAIDs)
• Antiseizure (e.g. Phenytoin)
Dental & Oral Allergy Reactions
Some people develop allergies to the materials and adhesives used in dental treatments. We offer allergy testing for:
• Glues
• Cements
• Adhesives
Our specialists diagnose and treat immune-related conditions affecting the respiratory system, skin, and digestive health.
Rhinitis
A common condition that causes irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane inside the nose.
Sinusitis
A common condition that causes inflammation of the sinuses. It can be due to infection, allergy, or autoimmune issues.
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the eye’s outermost layer and the eyelids’ inner surface. It is commonly due to an infection or an allergic reaction.
Otitis
A general term for inflammation or infection of the ear.
Hives/Urticaria
A kind of skin rash notable for pale red, raised, and itchy bumps. It may also cause a burning or stinging sensation and is frequently caused by allergic reactions.
Dermatitis
There are several types of dermatitis. They are distinguished based on the factor that triggers the skin reaction.
Eczema
A form of chronic inflammation of the skin, including dryness and recurring skin rashes characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, swelling, itching, dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding.
Asthma
Chronic inflammatory disease of the airways is characterized by reversible airflow obstruction and bronchospasm. Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
Headache/Migraine
A chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent moderate to severe headaches. Migraines are believed to be due to a mixture of environmental and genetic factors. About two-thirds of cases run in families.
Anaphylaxis
A serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death. It typically causes several symptoms, including an itchy rash, throat swelling, and low blood pressure. Common causes include insect bites/stings, foods, and medications.
Angioedema
The rapid swelling of the dermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa, and submucosal tissues.
GastroEsophagitis Reflux Disease (GERD)
A chronic symptom of mucosal damage is caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis
An allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus. Symptoms are difficulty swallowing, food impaction, and heartburn.
Accurate diagnosis is key to effective allergy management.
Prick or Scratch Testing
Using 2 to 4 sterile plastic applicators on the forearms without bleeding, test up to 40 allergens, either airborne environmental or food. Results in 20 minutes!
Intradermal
Used only for the negative prick tests, if necessary, for confirmation.
Patch Testing
Used for contact allergies, such as latex/rubber, jewelry/metal, cosmetic/perfume, and chemicals.
Giving the suspected food or medication to determine if it is the true cause of the allergic reaction.
This technique helps desensitize patients to medications that cause allergic reactions, most commonly used for penicillin or aspirin.
Evaluates lung function and measures how well the lungs take in and release air to diagnose and manage conditions. Pulmonary Function Test helps identify the causes of shortness of breath and lung diseases, including Asthma, Bronchitis, and Emphysema.
Immunology
We assess immune system function in patients with recurrent infections, anaphylaxis, or angioedema to determine underlying immune deficiencies.
Allergy Shots (Immunotherapy)
This treatment involves administering the offending allergen via subcutaneous injection to desensitize or help the patient build immunity to that allergen over time.
SLIT (Sublingual Immunotherapy)
Allergy drops are taken under the tongue at home. While slightly less effective than traditional allergy shots, SLIT offers a convenient alternative for those who fear needles or can’t commit to regular office visits for injections.
Biologics
This treatment targets the underlying cause of the condition, helping to manage symptoms and enhance overall quality of life. Biologics are subcutaneous injections given every 1 to 4 weeks. These injections work by redirecting the immune response to treat underlying issues, including:
• Asthma
• COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
• Nasal polyps
• Hives
• Eczema
• Food allergies
• Anaphylaxis
• Difficulty swallowing food
At The Village Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Center, we offer expert diagnosis and personalized treatment plans for a wide range of conditions, including allergies, asthma, immune system disorders, eczema, hives, food allergies, anaphylaxis, and more. From allergy shots and biologics to advanced diagnostic testing, we provide long-term management to help you live symptom-free.
